NIN

The NIN (National ID Number) is the public ID number for a citizen. This number alone does not have any negative consequences of someone knowing your number. Because of the GAON, a bad actor can not setup a new account, or credit line. In order to get a GAON, the citizen must provide their credentials to the government’s portal. Since these credentials should be a secret, this makes it nearly impossible for a bad actor to work against you.

The NIN is issued immediately at birth. Shortly after birth, the parents will receive a non-photo ID card with the newborn’s NIN. This card is required for Health 1 healthcare, and other roles. The NIN is however will remain the same throughout the life of the citizen. The NIN is also the bank account number with Kaldan National Bank. The bank account will be setup as a “pre-active” account. This will reduce the options the account will have. A guardian will not be able to draw money out of a pre-active account, however it can accept deposits. Once the child is old enough to acquire a GIN, the citizen will get the GIN, and unlock their account. This photo ID card will then allow the child to use their money as they see fit. Obviously, school would have taught some financial responsibility, and personal finance classes.

With this in mind, the NIN is the bank account number, the Health 1 number, and the number for gaining access to any public housing, or using the public transit network. This will all be done through the NIN card as telling someone your NIN number does nothing. The NIN also forms the first 11 digits of the citizen’s telephone numbers. Each NIN can support 9 voice numbers + 1 fax number.
